Chefs jobs in Roma

Chefs in Roma do the same work as chefs anywhere in Australia, but who employs them, and under which licence, is local. Roma's largest employing industries are Mining, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and Health Care and Social Assistance, which shapes both where the work is and how steady it tends to be.

Local market

Who hires chefs in Roma

Roma runs on two things: Surat Basin coal seam gas, where Santos GLNG and Australia Pacific LNG base field crews, drilling and maintenance work; and cattle, through the council-run Roma Saleyards, the largest cattle selling centre in Australia, which turns off hundreds of thousands of head a year.

Santos (GLNG Surat Basin operations, Roma), Australia Pacific LNG / Origin Energy (Surat Basin upstream operations), Maranoa Regional Council and South West Hospital and Health Service (Roma Hospital) are among the largest employers in Roma. Most chefs here, though, are hired by small and mid-sized businesses rather than by the names everyone recognises — which is why so many local vacancies never reach a big job board.
