Motor Mechanics jobs in Broken Hill

Motor Mechanics in Broken Hill do the same work as motor mechanics anywhere in Australia, but who employs them, and under which licence, is local. Broken Hill's largest employing industries are Mining, Health care and social assistance and Retail trade, which shapes both where the work is and how steady it tends to be.

Local market

Who hires motor mechanics in Broken Hill

Silver-lead-zinc mining on the Line of Lode has run for over 140 years and still anchors the town: Perilya's Broken Hill Operations, plus the Rasp Mine, which Broken Hill Mines acquired in October 2024 and has been ramping through 2026 with its lease renewed to 2047. The RFDS base and Far West Local Health District serve an enormous, sparsely populated catchment.

Perilya Limited, Broken Hill Mines Limited (Rasp Mine), Far West Local Health District and Broken Hill City Council are among the largest employers in Broken Hill. Most motor mechanics here, though, are hired by small and mid-sized businesses rather than by the names everyone recognises — which is why so many local vacancies never reach a big job board.
