Plumbers jobs in Alice Springs

Plumbers in Alice Springs do the same work as plumbers anywhere in Australia, but who employs them, and under which licence, is local. Alice Springs's largest employing industries are Health Care and Social Assistance, Public Administration and Safety and Education and Training, which shapes both where the work is and how steady it tends to be. Licensing is set by the Northern Territory, not nationally — the requirements below are the ones that apply here.

Licensing

Licensing for plumbers in NT

A licence or registration is required in every Australian state and territory before you can carry out plumbing work — there is no unlicensed pathway anywhere in the country. Each jurisdiction has its own plumbing regulator, its own licence classes and its own split between doing the work, supervising it, certifying it and contracting directly to customers.

the Northern Territory
The Plumbers and Drainers Licensing Board, established under the Plumbers and Drainers Licensing Act 1983, licenses plumbers and drainers in the Northern Territory. An advanced tradesman licence allows the holder to contract for and carry out plumbing and draining work and to supervise apprentices, journeymen and trades assistants. Certifying plumbing and drainage work is a separate registration granted by the Building Practitioners Board under the Building Act 1993.

Licensing rules change. Confirm with the regulator named above before quoting or contracting — this page is a starting point, not advice.

Who hires plumbers in Alice Springs

Alice Springs runs on public administration, health and Aboriginal community-controlled organisations. Alice Springs Hospital is the referral centre for all of Central Australia, and Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and the Central Land Council are among the town's largest employers. Pine Gap adds a defence workforce; tourism is strongly seasonal.

Central Australia Health Service (Alice Springs Hospital), Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, Central Land Council and Alice Springs Town Council are among the largest employers in Alice Springs. Most plumbers here, though, are hired by small and mid-sized businesses rather than by the names everyone recognises — which is why so many local vacancies never reach a big job board.
