What is AI accounting?

Finance & accounting. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.

AI accounting is the use of artificial intelligence across the accounting function — transaction processing, reconciliation, reporting and first-draft analysis — with qualified people responsible for judgement, tax positions and advice.

In Australia the boundary is regulatory as well as practical: tax agent services provided for a fee require registration with the Tax Practitioners Board, and the TPB's guidance holds practitioners ultimately responsible for AI-assisted work. AI compresses the processing layer; registered professionals own the positions taken. Inside a connected back office, AI accounting means one live ledger feeding books, BAS and reports, with a single accountable team applying judgement where it matters.

In a connected back office this sits with the Finance hub, where Valont runs bookkeeping, managed payroll and bas & tax compliance for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
