What is AI BAS preparation?
Finance & accounting. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.
AI BAS preparation is the use of artificial intelligence to assemble and check the figures behind a business activity statement — suggesting GST classifications, reconciling accounts and flagging anomalies — while a person remains responsible for reviewing and lodging the statement.
Under Australian rules, providing BAS services for a fee requires TPB registration, and TPB(GS) 55/2026 requires practitioners to review AI output with professional judgement before relying on it. AI is strong on routine classification and anomaly detection, weak on GST edge cases and adjustments. Inside a connected back office, AI keeps the ledger BAS-ready all quarter and a registered practitioner stands behind what is lodged.
In a connected back office this sits with the Finance hub, where Valont runs bookkeeping, managed payroll and bas & tax compliance for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
