What is Cash conversion cycle?
Finance & accounting. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.
The cash conversion cycle is the number of days between paying suppliers for inputs and collecting cash from customers — calculated as debtor days plus inventory days minus creditor days.
It measures how long each dollar is tied up in operations before it comes back. A shorter cycle means the business funds less of its own growth from borrowed or shareholder cash; a lengthening cycle is an early warning of cash strain even while profit looks healthy. For most SMEs the fastest improvements come from invoicing promptly and tightening collections.
In a connected back office this sits with the Finance hub, where Valont runs bookkeeping, managed payroll and bas & tax compliance for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
