What is Outsourced CFO?
Finance & accounting. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.
An outsourced CFO (or virtual CFO) is a senior finance professional engaged part-time or on retainer to provide the strategic layer of the finance function — cash flow strategy, forecasting, pricing, board and bank reporting, capital raising support — without the cost of a full-time executive.
The model suits SMEs that have outgrown bookkeeper-plus-annual-accountant but cannot yet justify a permanent CFO. The common failure mode is engaging an outsourced CFO on top of disconnected bookkeeping and payroll, which leaves them steering from unreliable numbers.
In a connected back office this sits with the Finance hub, where Valont runs bookkeeping, managed payroll and bas & tax compliance for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
