What is SaaS (Software as a Service)?

Operations, IT, cybersecurity. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.

SaaS is software delivered over the internet on a subscription model rather than installed locally.

Most modern business software (Xero, Salesforce, Slack, HubSpot, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) is SaaS. SaaS reduces upfront capital cost and simplifies deployment but introduces dependency on the vendor's uptime, data handling practices, and pricing.

In a connected back office this sits with the Operations hub, where Valont runs it support, cybersecurity and cloud systems for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
