Midwives, Neonatal, SCN and NICU Nurses jobs in Murray Bridge

Midwives, Neonatal, SCN and NICU Nurses in Murray Bridge do the same work as midwives, neonatal, scn and nicu nurses anywhere in Australia, but who employs them, and under which licence, is local. Murray Bridge's largest employing industries are Manufacturing, Health Care and Social Assistance, Agriculture and Forestry and Fishing, which shapes both where the work is and how steady it tends to be. Licensing is set by South Australia, not nationally — the requirements below are the ones that apply here.

Licensing

Licensing for midwives, neonatal, scn and nicu nurses in SA

Midwifery registration is national, not state-based. Midwives register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through Ahpra under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, and that registration is recognised in every state and territory. Midwife is a separate registration from registered nurse — holding one does not give you the other, and many midwives hold both. Registration does not vary between states, but several things do: the employer (each state's public maternity services, or a private hospital), the industrial instrument (state nursing and midwifery enterprise agreements cover most public midwives rather than the federal Nurses Award 2020), each state's drugs and poisons law governing what a midwife may administer and supply, and privately practising midwifery requirements including professional indemnity insurance, eligible midwife notation and NMBA endorsement for scheduled medicines for those who prescribe. Working-with-children and vulnerable-people checks are also state-issued and are almost always required in maternity and neonatal settings.

South Australia
SA Health Local Health Networks, including the Women's and Children's Health Network, employ midwives under the Nursing/Midwifery (South Australian Public Sector) Enterprise Agreement. Medicines are governed by the Controlled Substances Act 1984 (SA). A DHS Working with Children Check is required. MedSTAR Kids provides neonatal retrieval statewide.

Licensing rules change. Confirm with the regulator named above before quoting or contracting — this page is a starting point, not advice.

Local market

Who hires midwives, neonatal, scn and nicu nurses in Murray Bridge

Murray Bridge's labour market was rebuilt around meat processing after fire destroyed Thomas Foods International's plant in 2018; TFI's replacement abattoir on a greenfield site outside town is ramping toward a workforce in the thousands, alongside Big River Pork at Brinkley, irrigated dairy and horticulture, and Monarto Safari Park.

Thomas Foods International (Murray Bridge beef and lamb processing plant), Big River Pork (Brinkley), Rural City of Murray Bridge and Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network (Murray Bridge Soldiers' Memorial Hospital) are among the largest employers in Murray Bridge. Most midwives, neonatal, scn and nicu nurses here, though, are hired by small and mid-sized businesses rather than by the names everyone recognises — which is why so many local vacancies never reach a big job board.

  • In SCN and NICU, manage thermoregulation, respiratory support, CPAP and ventilation, IV lines, feeds and developmental care for preterm infants

  • Document care and screening results, and refer to obstetricians, paediatricians, social work and child health services
