Plumbers jobs in Devonport
Plumbers in Devonport do the same work as plumbers anywhere in Australia, but who employs them, and under which licence, is local. Devonport's largest employing industries are Health Care and Social Assistance, Manufacturing and Retail Trade, which shapes both where the work is and how steady it tends to be. Licensing is set by Tasmania, not nationally — the requirements below are the ones that apply here.

Licensing
Licensing for plumbers in TAS
A licence or registration is required in every Australian state and territory before you can carry out plumbing work — there is no unlicensed pathway anywhere in the country. Each jurisdiction has its own plumbing regulator, its own licence classes and its own split between doing the work, supervising it, certifying it and contracting directly to customers.
- Tasmania
- Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS), within the Department of Justice, issues plumbing practitioner licences under the Occupational Licensing Act 2005 and the Occupational Licensing (Plumbing Work) Regulations 2021. Categories include the practitioner's licence, restricted plumbing licences and a provisional licence for applicants with overseas qualifications who need to complete gap training.
Licensing rules change. Confirm with the regulator named above before quoting or contracting — this page is a starting point, not advice.

Who hires plumbers in Devonport
Devonport is Tasmania's ferry and vegetable-processing town. TT-Line's Spirit of Tasmania berths here, with the new Spirit Quay terminal being built for the replacement vessels, and Simplot's Devonport plant - which packs Edgell and Birds Eye lines from north-west Tasmanian growers - is among the city's largest single employers.
Simplot Australia (Devonport vegetable processing plant), TT-Line Company (Spirit of Tasmania), TasPorts (Port of Devonport and Devonport Airport), Department of Health Tasmania (Mersey Community Hospital and Latrobe) are among the largest employers in Devonport. Most plumbers here, though, are hired by small and mid-sized businesses rather than by the names everyone recognises — which is why so many local vacancies never reach a big job board.
Largest employing industries
26,994 people (Devonport (City, Local Government Area), ABS Estimated Resident Population at 30 June 2025. The wider Devonport Significant Urban Area, which takes in Latrobe and surrounds, was 32,938 at the same date.).
