What is BPO (Business Process Outsourcing)?

Category-defining vocabulary. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.

BPO is a model originally designed for large enterprises with high-volume, repeatable processes.

The work is typically offshore, priced per-task or per-FTE, governed by service-level agreements, and structured for execution at scale and low unit cost. BPO is generally not the right fit for Australian SME back-office work because the compliance depth and judgement required don't suit the BPO operating model.

In a connected back office this sits with the Finance hub, where Valont runs bookkeeping, managed payroll and bas & tax compliance for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
