What is Business consultant?

Category-defining vocabulary. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.

A business consultant is an external specialist engaged to diagnose a problem or opportunity and recommend (and sometimes implement) a solution, usually scoped as a project with a defined end.

The related terms overlap but differ in posture: a consultant diagnoses and hands over, a business advisor stays engaged as an ongoing sounding board across the whole business, and a coach develops the owner rather than the business. Many Australian SMEs use consultant and advisor interchangeably; the practical distinction is project versus relationship.

In a connected back office this sits with the Finance hub, where Valont runs bookkeeping, managed payroll and bas & tax compliance for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
