What is Founder dependency?
Category-defining vocabulary. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.
Founder dependency is the degree to which a business relies on its owner to function — the decisions only they can make, the relationships only they hold, and the knowledge that lives only in their head.
A founder-dependent business is harder to scale, harder to sell, and carries key-person risk: if the owner steps away, parts of it slow or stop. Reducing founder dependency means moving decisions, context and relationships out of the owner's head and into people, documented processes and systems. See Founder Dependency for the full treatment.
