Aged and Disability Support jobs in Devonport

Aged and Disability Support in Devonport involves the same work as it does anywhere in Australia, but who employs you, and under which registration or clearance, is local. Devonport's largest employing industries are Health Care and Social Assistance, Manufacturing and Retail Trade, which shapes both where the work is and how steady it tends to be. Licensing is set by Tasmania, not nationally — the requirements below are the ones that apply here.

Licensing

Licensing for aged and disability support in TAS

There is no occupational licence or national registration for support workers, but the clearance picture is strict and it differs by state. Anyone working with children needs the child-related clearance issued in their state or territory, and these are separate schemes with different names, terms and portability rules. Anyone delivering NDIS supports in a risk-assessed role must hold an NDIS Worker Screening Check — the rules are national and set by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, but you apply through your own state or territory screening unit and the clearance is then portable nationally for five years. Aged care workers must also meet Commonwealth aged care police certificate and statutory declaration requirements. Most employers additionally require a current first aid certificate and a driver licence.

Tasmania
Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) issued by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) in the Department of Justice. Tasmania runs one registration with separate categories, so you must nominate the child-related and/or NDIS category that matches your work.

Licensing rules change. Confirm with the regulator named above before quoting or contracting — this page is a starting point, not advice.

Who hires in aged and disability support in Devonport

Devonport is Tasmania's ferry and vegetable-processing town. TT-Line's Spirit of Tasmania berths here, with the new Spirit Quay terminal being built for the replacement vessels, and Simplot's Devonport plant - which packs Edgell and Birds Eye lines from north-west Tasmanian growers - is among the city's largest single employers.

Simplot Australia (Devonport vegetable processing plant), TT-Line Company (Spirit of Tasmania), TasPorts (Port of Devonport and Devonport Airport), Department of Health Tasmania (Mersey Community Hospital and Latrobe) are among the largest employers in Devonport. Most people working in aged and disability support here, though, are hired by small and mid-sized businesses rather than by the names everyone recognises — which is why so many local vacancies never reach a big job board.
