What is TPAR (Taxable Payments Annual Report)?

Industry-specific compliance. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.

TPAR is the annual report businesses in certain industries (building and construction, cleaning, courier and road freight, IT, security, investigation, surveillance) must lodge with the ATO summarising payments to contractors.

Lodgement is due 28 August for the prior financial year. The ATO cross-references TPAR data against contractors' tax returns; discrepancies trigger investigations on both parties. TPAR errors are a leading source of trades and construction industry tax penalties.

In a connected back office this sits with the Finance hub, where Valont runs bookkeeping, managed payroll and bas & tax compliance for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
