What is Payday super?

Payroll & people. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.

Payday super is the superannuation payment regime that commenced 1 July 2026: employers must pay the superannuation guarantee (12% of qualifying earnings) with each pay run, and the contribution must reach the employee's fund within 7 business days of payday.

It replaces the old quarterly SG deadlines (the final quarterly payment, covering April–June 2026, is due 28 July 2026) and the ATO's Small Business Superannuation Clearing House has closed. Late or missed payments attract the redesigned Superannuation Guarantee Charge.

In a connected back office this sits with the People hub, where Valont runs award compliance, hr & ir advisory and employer advice line for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
