What is Psychosocial hazards?

Payroll & people. A plain-English definition for Australian business owners.

Psychosocial hazards are work-related factors that can cause psychological harm — bullying, harassment, excessive workload, role conflict, poor support.

Australian WHS regulations now explicitly require employers to identify and manage psychosocial hazards alongside physical ones. Compliance includes documented risk assessment, control measures, and review. This is a newer compliance area many SMEs haven't yet addressed.

In a connected back office this sits with the People hub, where Valont runs award compliance, hr & ir advisory and employer advice line for Australian SMEs as one team. The full definition set is on the glossary.
